Cardiovascular magnetic resonance in unsuspected interrupted inferior vena cava.

چکیده
Interrupted inferior vena cava (IVC) is a rare anomaly. Anomalies of IVC are clinically important for cardiologists and radiologists who plan to intervene in the right heart. We describe three cases of IVC interruption diagnosed by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging study.

Heterotaxy syndrome and interrupted inferior vena cava (IVC) with azygos continuation
Heterotaxy syndrome or situs ambiguous is a rare congenital disease in which the pattern of anatomical organization of the thoraco-abdominal visceral and vascular structures is not arranged in normal position. Patients with heterotaxy syndrome represent a wide range of anatomical variations including thoraco-abdominal structures. Here we report a rare case of asymptomatic heterotaxy syndrome in...
متن کاملInterrupted inferior vena cava: high-risk anatomy for right thoracotomy.
Interrupted inferior vena cava (IVC) is a rare developmental defect characterised by azygos continuation following failure of fusion of one or more of the component parts of the embryological IVC and occurring in approximately one in 5000 of the general population. It is usually an isolated finding and generally asymptomatic. We present a case of non-small cell lung cancer requiring right pneum...
متن کاملCongenital inferior vena cava anomalies: a review of findings at multidetector computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging*
Inferior vena cava anomalies are rare, occurring in up to 8.7% of the population, as left renal vein anomalies are considered. The inferior vena cava develops from the sixth to the eighth gestational weeks, originating from three paired embryonic veins, namely the subcardinal, supracardinal and postcardinal veins. This complex ontogenesis of the inferior vena cava, with multiple anastomoses bet...
متن کاملAn aortocaval fistula diagnosed with 1.5-T magnetic resonance angiography.
We report a case of aortocaval fistula demonstrated with gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) angiography. Specific radiographic features of this rare complication, such as early and intense enhancement of the inferior vena cava, are underlined with MR imaging. The exact location of the fistula can also be assessed with this noninvasive imaging technique. Moreover, the absence of iodinat...
متن کاملFatal tumor thrombosis due to an inferior vena cava leiomyosarcoma in a patient with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome.
We describe a patient with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) who died because of relentless inferior vena cava (IVC) tumor thrombosis due to an unsuspected leiomyosarcoma. Laboratory confirmation for APS was provided by functional identification of a lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipin IgG and anti-beta2-glycoprotein I IgM antibodies. Although sensitive for detecting vascular obstruc...
